A brief is a control system
AI does not remove the need for a brief. It increases the number of directions a team can explore, which makes clear constraints more important. Without them, speed produces more unusable options rather than better decisions.
What the client must provide
Request inputs in categories so missing information is obvious before the first generation.
- Business goal, audience, offer, platform, and primary message.
- Product packshots, people references, logos, colors, and brand guidelines.
- Visual references with a note explaining what should be borrowed from each.
- Non-negotiable details, prohibited claims, and compliance constraints.
- Final formats, asset counts, deadlines, usage, and required source documentation.
- Who selects concepts and who gives final approval.
Define the selection gate
Do not refine every concept. Present a bounded set of visual directions, ask the client to select one, and refine only the approved lane. This makes revisions legible and prevents a project from becoming unlimited exploration.
